- Q: General: How do I register for an Activity?
- A: In order to register for an activity, you must create an account. Once your account has been created, follow the steps listed below:
1) Click the 'View Class Schedules' button on the registration home page.
2) Select the Activity in which you would like to enroll.
3) When you're ready to register for the activity, click the 'Add to My Cart' button.
4) Next, sign in to your online registration account by entering your Login Name information and Password. Proceed to checkout by clicking the 'Continue' button. From this screen you may remove Activities from your cart or view more Activities and add them to your cart.
5) Confirm your Activity name, date and time, name of the person enrolled and cost.
6) Click 'Continue' to proceed with payment. You will be prompted that you are entering a secure site. This system accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. Enter your credit card information on the Payment Information Page and agree to any required waiver(s). Confirm the payer meets the age requirement of "13 Years or Older". Click 'Continue'. *Please Note: The name and address must match those that are on file with your credit company. If the address shown is not your credit card billing address, click on the 'My Account' button and change your residential address to match your credit card billing address.
7) Once your payment has been approved, your receipt will display. Please print a copy for your records.
- Q: General: How do I create my Account?
- A: Before registering for any activities on our website, you must create an Account with your Email Address and Password. Note: You can create an account during the registration process.
1) Click on the 'Create Account' button.
2) Fill out the form for New Account Request, including all required fields,and click 'Submit'. Please submit your request only once.
3) You will automatically receive an email after submitting your request for an account. Your account will be activated only after you have responded by clicking on the activation link in the email(to the email address you provided).
- Q: General: Can I view Class Schedules without registering?
- A: Yes. Click the 'View Class Schedules' button.
- Q: General: I don't have an email address for registration, what do I do?
- A: Please call Access York at 1-877-464-9675 and you will be connected with someone who can assist you.
- Q: General: What should I do if I forget my password?
- A: When you are prompted to sign in, click 'Forgotten?' and provide the information requested. Click 'Done', and a new temporary password will be emailed to you. Upon signing in, you will be prompted to change your password.
If you experience difficulties, please contact our office during regular business hours.

- Q: General: Can I view my transaction history and print out my past receipts?
- A: Yes.
To view prior transactions, log in and click 'List of Prior Transactions'.
- Q: General: I have a disability. Will I be able to attend classes?
- A: The Regional Municipality of York is committed to making our programs accessible to persons with disabilities; please identify your needs through your class registration or by calling 1-888-256-1112.
- Q: General: I lost my receipt. What should I do?
- A: You can log in to your account to retrieve a copy of your receipt.
- Q: General: Class is full? What can I do?
- A: Check back up to 48 hours prior to the first day of class to see if any space opens up due to last minute cancellations
- Q: General: How do I cancel and/or change the class I registered for?
- A: To cancel a class, please call 1-888-256-1112 at least 48 hours prior to the first day to the start date of the class.
To change the class, please call 1-888-256-1112 and we will cancel your registration for the original class. You will then need to re-register for your preferred class.
Note: For all cancelations, you will be charged $0.10 on your credit card.
- Q: Breastfeeding Clinics: Can I register for breastfeeding CLINICS online?
- A: Not at this time. To register for breastfeeding clinics, please call York Region Health Connection at 1-800-361-5653
- Q: Food Handler Certification Program: Who teaches the workshops and proctors the exam session?
- A: Public Health Inspectors teach the workshops using a variety of learning activities and visual aids. The self-study sessions are proctored by Public Health Inspectors as well.
- Q: Food Handler Certification Program: What does the cost of the workshops and exam sessions cover?
- A: The cost covers the fees of materials only, including the exam.
- Q: Food Handler Certification Program: Can I register in person?
- A: The public can register in person and have the option of paying either with cash or cheque (made payable to Regional Municipality of York). Debit payment is available only at the South Services Centre, 50 High Tech Road, Richmond Hill and York Region Administrative Centre, 17250 Yonge Street, Newmarket. Credit cards can be used either in person, online or on the phone with Access York 1-877-464-9675.
- Q: Food Handler Certification Program: The workshop and exam sessions are full? What can I do?
- A: Check back up to 48 hours prior to the first day of either the workshop or self-study session to see if any space opens up due to last minute cancellations.
- Q: Food Handler Certification Program: What should I bring to the workshop or exam session with me?
- A: Your invoice, government issued photo identification and a sharpened pencil and eraser.
The invoice contains important information about the location and your customer number which is needed to write the exam.
- Q: Food Handler Certification Program: Is there a wait list?
- A: No, we currently do not have a wait list.
- Q: Food Handler Certification Program: Can I register for other classes that York Region offers at the same time?
- A: Yes, you may register for other York Region classes at the same time, as long as they do not fall on the same day.
- Q: Food Handler Certification Program: Cancelling and/or changing the class I registered for?
- A: To cancel a class, please call 1-877-464-9675 at least 48 hours prior to the first day of the series.

- Q: Food Handler Certification Program: Are snacks and lunch provided?
- A: No food or drink is provided for workshops and self-study sessions. It is recommended that you bring your own snacks and/or lunch.
- Q: Food Handler Certification Program: Can I split my attendance between two or more workshops?
- A: You are unable to split your attendance between two or more workshops.
- Q: Food Handler Certification Program: I have a disability. Will I be able to attend either the workshop or exam session?

- Q: Food Handler Certification Program: How should I study for the exam?
- A: Focus on the review questions at the end of the chapter; know definitions and regulations; know the final cooking temperatures of different types of foods; and know the different types of chemical sanitizers and their concentrations.
- Q: Food Handler Certification Program: Is this an open book exam?
- A: No
- Q: Food Handler Certification Program: How many questions are there on the exam and what is the passing mark?
- A: This are 50 multiple choice questions and a minimum of 35 (70%) is needed to pass.
- Q: Food Handler Certification Program: How long will it take for me to receive my wallet card?
- A: The pass letter and wallet card will be mailed out in approximately three to four weeks of writing the exam
- Q: Food Handler Certification Program: I failed my exam and need to re-write. What should I do?
- A: Register for an exam session at your convenience from the provided dates. Cost is $20.
- Q: Food Handler Certification Program: Is the certification recognized outside of York Region?
- A: Yes, the certification is recognized across Ontario and is valid for five years.

- Q: Prenatal program- Online: Do I have to register separately for in-person prenatal classes and the online prenatal program?
- A: No. If you are registering for in-person prenatal classes, you will be automatically registered for the online prenatal program. You do not have to register separately. Once you have completed the registration process for in-person classes, you will be provided with the link to access the online prenatal program. The link will be included in your receipt. You will only need to register for the online prenatal program if you are not registering for the in-person prenatal classes.
- Q: Prenatal program- Online: Does the in-person prenatal class and the online prenatal program cover the same content?
- A: Yes, the key messages are the same; however, the delivery of the content is different. The in-person prenatal class content is facilitated by a public health nurse through group discussion and activities.
- Q: Prenatal program- Online: Is there a benefit for me to participate in both the in-person prenatal class and the online prenatal program?
- A: Attending an in-person prenatal class allows you to ask questions to a public health nurse and connect with other expectant parents in the class.
The online prenatal program provides you access to on-line resources and information (that are printable) anytime and at your convenience.
- Q: Prenatal program-in-person: Is there a discount for attending only part of the Prenatal class/series?
- A: No.
- Q: Prenatal program-in-person: Can I switch or split my attendance between two or more prenatal class series? e.g. I am interested in a weekend series however the first class does not work for me, but the second class does.
- A: No, unfortunately we are not able to offer that option.
- Q: Prenatal program-in-person: The Prenatal Class is full? What can I do? Is there a waiting list for full prenatal classes.
- A: No, we currently do not have waiting lists for classes. To plan for future classes, please answer a few short questions that are provided on the web page for a full class

- A: The cost of the classes covers the fees for materials .

- A: You may bring only one support person/partner. You will be asked to identify them during the registration process.
- Q: Prenatal program-in-person: Do I need to bring anything to class with me?
- A: Please print your invoice and bring it to the first class. The invoice contains important information about the class location. Please bring snacks as appropriate and dress comfortably.
- Q: Prenatal program-in-person: Refund policies?
- A: You can receive a refund up to the first day of class. No refunds will be given after the first day of class.
Note: You will be charged $0.10 on your credit card.
- Q: Preparation for Parenting: Can I register for both the prenatal class and preparation for parenting class at the same time?
- A: Yes, you may register for both as long as they do not fall on the same day (i.e. same Saturday).
