Biography:
Kevin Zakresky received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Yale University in the spring of 2012; previously he earned Master of Music degrees from Yale and from UBC, as well as an ARCT from the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto. He is currently Music Director of the Prince George Symphony Orchestra and conductor of the Pacifica Singers.
Dr. Zakresky has sung as the tenor soloist with the the Yale Collegium Musicum, the UBC Opera Ensemble, the UBC Symphony Orchestra, the Prince George Symphony, and the Richmond Orchestra. He has worked extensively as a performer and conductor of opera, musical theatre, and early music.
Zakresky has taught at Simon Fraser Uuniversity and Douglas College, is in demand as an adjudicator and clinician throughout western Canada, and volunteers for Musicians without Borders. The recent winner of the BC Choral Federation's Youth Music Award, Dr. Zakresky was the founder-director of Chor Leoni's ?MYVoice? program, a choral experience for young men throughout the Lower Mainland.
He is a member of the faculty of the innovative Vancouver International Song Institute, and serves on the faculty of the BC Choral Federation's Choral Directorship Course. He publishes regularly in choral and vocal periodicals. His latest article, ?Operas from the Playground: Benjamin Britten's Opera Roles for Children? appeared in the May 2012 edition of the NATS Journal of Singing.
