Description:
The Kitsilano Community Centre has a long and fruitful relationship with the Multiple Sclerosis community. Currently they host a drop-in self-help group for people with MS from all over the lower mainland every Friday afternoon, statutory holidays excluded. We try to meet at the Community Centre as much as possible but when we can’t we still meet via Zoom or do a combined Zoom and in person event. We have a diverse membership, people of all ages are welcome and we believe in a barrier free experience. We come together, to share, gasp, laugh and especially to listen. We believe that no one should be on this journey alone. We start most sessions with a quick chat and have a roundtable where everyone has a chance to speak. Sometimes we bring in guests. We have a few social events over the year including a summer picnic and Christmas luncheon off the premises. We also do some philanthropic events such as the MS Walk and other charitable endeavors. If this seems like something you would like to experience and have some questions, please please contact the navigator at the BC Yukon MS Society at 604-689-3144.
Please note: Socials, events and volunteer work outside of the Support Group meeting time at Kitsilano CC are not associated with the KCCA, Vancouver Park Board & COV, and operate independently.
Notes:
The nature of the activity is such that you may interact with other people who are considered to be in good health, continuous physical distance between other people cannot be guaranteed, and, by participating in the activity, you are at risk of being infected by a pathogen, including but not limited to SARS-COV-2. SARS-COV-2, which causes the disease COVID-19, may exacerbate other health issues and is the cause of an ongoing global pandemic. SARS-COV-2 is highly communicable and dangerous. If you become infected with SARS-COV2, you may transmit it to other people even if you are not exhibiting symptoms of illness.
Communicable Disease Health & Safety Practices:
Participants should assess themselves daily for symptoms of common cold, influenza, COVID-19, or other infectious respiratory disease before attending a program.
Participants who are ill, including participants of essential service providers, should not attend a program or access the Community Centre. If you are unsure, you should self-isolate and contact 8-1-1 or the local public health unit.
All participants are encouraged to practice proper hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette by covering coughs or sneezes.
