FCCC Waterfront Paddling Programs: WHAT TO WEAR AND BRING.
*All Paddling Programs*
What to Wear:
-Synthetic or wool clothing that is quick-drying – no cotton or jeans please.
-Shoes that can get wet – sandals with heel straps, aqua socks, or old running shoes. No flip flops!
What to Bring:
-Warm sweater or lightweight rain jacket or windbreaker.
-Sun hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses secured with a strap.
-Water bottle.
-A complete change of spare clothing (including footwear).
-A towel. Change rooms and showers are available at the False Creek Community Centre.
-A lock if you want to store items in a locker or a quarter if you want to use one of the wallet lockers in the lobby.
-Money for pay parking.
Arrive Early:
-Please meet above the Alder Bay Dock 10 to 15 minutes before the start of the program.
-We will not wait for you if you are late.
*Paddling Courses with Rescue/Recovery Portions*
What to Wear & Bring:
-As above, plus the following...
Additional Items to Bring:
-For the rescue portion of the course – when you’ll spend significant time underwater – additional, warmer quick-drying clothing that you can swim in (possibly over swimsuit). Wetsuits or dry-suits are great for this.
-A dry bag or a stuff bag with a plastic bag inside to store your wet gear.
*Paddling Programs Lasting All Day*
-Bring lunch – there will not be any time to go to the market!
NOTE: The nature of the activity is such that you may interact with other people who are considered to be in good health, continuous physical distance between other people cannot be guaranteed, and, by participating in the activity, you are at risk of being infected by a pathogen, including but not limited to SARS-COV-2. SARS-COV-2, which causes the disease COVID-19, may exacerbate other health issues and is the cause of an ongoing global pandemic. SARS-COV-2 is highly communicable and dangerous. If you become infected with SARS-COV2, you may transmit it to other people even if you are not exhibiting symptoms of illness.
Communicable Disease Health & Safety Practices:
• Participants should assess themselves daily for symptoms of common cold, influenza, COVID-19, or other infectious respiratory disease before attending a program.
• Participants who are ill, including participants of essential service providers, should not attend a program or access the Community Centre. If you are unsure, you should self-isolate and contact 8-1-1 or the local public health unit.
• All participants are encouraged to practice proper hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette by covering coughs or sneezes.
