Description:
In this joint WENFN West End Urban Garden Club-Village Vancouver workshop, Hives for Humanity will lead us in creating Houses for Native Bees, including Mason Bees, as part of our continuing efforts to support pollinator well-being in the West End. You'll learn about the importance of native bees, native bee plant relationships, native bee life cycles, and honeybees vs. native bees. We'll decorate the native bee houses, which consist mainly of upcycled wood cut to assemble triangle shaped houses. Participants will hand roll tubes for the houses, and we may also create some houses out of pop bottles. Discussion on where to hang houses, what plants to plant nearby and what signs to look for, as well as after care instructions, will follow, and everyone who wants to will be able to take a bee house home with them! We'll have the community seed library present - you can get some free seeds for your garden or swap or donate some seeds. Advance registration encouraged. FREE for Seniors (50 and over).
