Description:
In this West End Urban Garden Club workshop, Hives for Humanity will lead us in building Houses for Native Bees, including Mason Bees, for our West End pollinator corridor project. You'll learn about the importance of native bees, native bee plant relationships, native bee lifecycles, and honeybees vs. native bees. As a group, we'll assemble the native bee houses which consist of upcycled wood cut to assemble triangle shaped houses with stapled on plastic backings. Participants will hand roll the tubes and also add some scavenged cane/bamboo. Discussion on where to hang houses, what plants to plant nearby and what signs to look for, as well as after care instructions, will follow, and everyone who wants to will be able to take a bee house home with them.
We'll have the community seed library present - you can get some free seeds for your garden or swap or donate some seeds. For further information: West End Neighbourhood Food Network -- Ross Moster ross.wenfn@gmail.com, or visit foodwestend.wordpress.com. Advance registration encouraged.
