New provincial health orders: recreation fitness class changes and wearing masks

November 24, 2020

As per the updated Province Wide Restrictions, Saanich Recreation will suspend all group fitness classes as of today, November 24. This is a temporary suspension in addition to the cancellation of spin and high intensity classes until we receive updated guidance from the Province. If you are affected by class cancellations or suspensions, you will be contacted by our Recreation staff. Other non-exercise group programs such as art or music classes will continue.

Due to the Provincial Health orders (PHO) issued November 24, there is currently a temporary hold placed on any new one time individual court bookings for tennis, pickleball, badminton and table tennis. Saanich registered Programs, and Permitted group rentals for these specific activities are unaffected at this time. As these measures are evolving, we encourage patrons to check back for further updates regularly.

Mask Order November 24

As per the Provincial Order issued November 24, mask use is mandatory in all of our facilities, except while participating in a sport or fitness activity.

This means:

  • Masks must be worn in all public and common areas of Saanich Recreation Centres and Parks Facilities.
  • Participants must wear a mask while participating in non-sport and non-fitness related activities. These include, and are not limited to, pottery classes, music classes, and other non-exercise programs.
  • All adults must wear a medical or non-medical mask that covers the nose and mouth. Face shields are not an accepted substitute.
  • Children between the ages of 2 and 12 are highly encouraged to wear masks. Children under 2, and those that cannot put on or remove a mask without the assistance of others are exempt from the mask requirement.
  • In areas like weight rooms, masks should be worn in between elements when not working out.

An online account is required to register for activities and waiting lists. Register early to save your spot. Activities may be cancelled if enrollment is low.

Visit for more information on registration and withdrawal processes and refund/cancellation policies.

  • Enter the activity number, or part of the activity title in the search field.
  • Use the filters section (left side) to help narrow your search. Many filters allow you toggle on more than one selection at a time.
  • To search for activities for more than one child of different ages (i.e. an 8 year old and a 13 year old), use the Age Range sliding scale (bottom left side) to help you see both results at once. This also works well for activities that may cross age ranges defined under the age category filter.
  • Add a participant to a Waitlist if an activity is full. Simply click on activity name and then 'Add to Waitlist'. You will be contacted if a spot becomes available.
Select your classes or activities before registration starts and create a Wish List. Keep in mind this doesn't guarantee a spot. When registration opens, log into your account and complete your transaction. It's a good idea to have some backup classes just in case your preferred class is full.
