Description: This class is suited to experienced students who can competently throw a variety of cylinders, have a solid understanding of ceramic vocabulary and are looking to refine these skills. This class is not suitable for beginners. Classes will focus on demonstrations of advanced projects and discussions on specialized techniques and advanced technical processes. Opportunities for self-directed special projects may be accommodated. Firing and open studio time included. Open studio access is limited and students are required to sign-up for Open Studio in advance. By registering for this program, the student acknowledges they have read and agree to the studio procedures outlined in the Student Ceramics Handbook.
Biography:
Friederike (Fredi) Rahn was born in 1966 in Harlow, England. She studied ceramics at Sheridan College (Ont) and at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Since 1990, she has maintained an active studio practice in Vancouver.
Fredi has participated in artists’ residencies at Watershed, Maine, the Archie Bray Foundation, Montana, and was a participant in the Mexico / Canada ceramics exchange in Puebla, Mexico and the Banff Centre.
She teaches at the Shadbolt Center for the Arts and the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. Fredi makes utilitarian tableware with strong decorative elements. Her work is exhibited across Canada and the United States.
