Description: This class is suited to beginners and those looking to explore weaving using a rigid heddle loom. These looms are lightweight, portable and take up very little space. Best of all they are user-friendly and can weave a wide variety of items from sturdy rugs and tapestries to beautiful scarves and hand towels. Beginners will learn to plan projects, set up the loom and practice weaving. Returning students will have the opportunity to work on self-directed projects. Supplies included. Looms are available for at-home practice; equipment loans require a deposit. Registered students can sign-up for studio time to access looms.
Biography:
Dawn Livera is a visual artist primarily working in textiles and mixed media. Dawn’s art practice begins with the belief that in art “there are no mistakes.”
Dawn has been an artist for her entire life. She studied weaving with a master weaver for many years and completed the Fashion Arts program at Vancouver Community College. She also has a BSc from UBC.
Community engagement is an important part of Dawn’s practice. She believes that making art should not be the private domain of the talented or learned few. Rather, everyone should feel free to explore their own creativity without worrying about whether their art is good enough.
