Creative Movement as a Learning Tool in the Early Years
To demonstrate and promote the essential role of the arts in the learning and development of every child, Virginia Tanner created a program in creative and modern dance in 1937.The program incorporates dance and movement into all areas of the curriculum using high-quality, innovative, and sequential arts instruction. Mary Ann Lee, Director of the Virginia Tanner Creative Dance Program and the Children's Dance Theatre at the University of Utah, as well as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Modern Dance, will provide a half day demonstration class/workshop for teachers at Canada's National Ballet School on:

About Mary Ann Lee
Since 1979, Mary Ann Lee has been the director of the University of Utah Tanner Dance Program. In addition to her roles within the University of Utah, Ms. Lee is a master teacher and has been a dance specialist for the National Endowment for the Arts' Artists in Education Program where she travelled to schools throughout the United States. She has been a dance specialist for the Utah Arts Council since 1975. She has taught, performed and choreographed extensively in the U.S., Canada, Sweden, France, the Netherlands, Japan and China. Ms. Lee continues to provide annual seminars to Canada's National Ballet School's Teacher Training students to enrich their early childhood education experiences and approaches to working with young dancers.
