Please note, this class is a continuation of Mr. Hong's "Special Level I" class that began in September of 2019. This class is not suitable for absolute beginners to ballet in January 2020.
This class is part of a year-long progression designed to advance students through the following concepts:
Term 1
Intro to a full barre (1st and 2nd position). Major port de bras. Intro to spotting for turns. Intro to simple jumps, 1st and 2nd position.
Term 2
Barre work with one hand on barre. Intro of 5th position. Adage work with port de bras. Increased difficulty with spotting. Continuous jumping introduced.
Term 3/Summer
Barre with port de bras in tendu and battement. Adage work with sustained use of free leg off the floor. Several spotting exercises. Added positions to jumps. Travelling steps on diagonal introduced. Intro to pas de chat.
Completion of this level is a prerequisite to Level I/II (Advanced Beginner)
Notes:
Participants should wear clothes that are form fitting,
especially at the knee-joint and ankle, in order for the instructor to see your movements. Do not wear clothes that will obstruct you or others from dancing. There are change rooms on the Concourse Level.
We require students to wear soft ballet shoes.
Street shoes are not permitted in the studios; they should be left in the change rooms or outside the studio. The studios are rosin free, but water may be used on the soles of shoes in case of slippery surfaces. NBS has a dancewear store, The Shoe Room®, which carries a selection of unique and comfortable dance clothing and shoes. It is located at 406 Jarvis St, Toronto, one building uphill from NBS. Adult Ballet students are automatically enrolled in the En Pointe Members Program with VIP status, and will receive emails regularly with offers and promo codes that can be redeemed in store and through the
online store
